Anita DeSoto’s artworks bring together the immediate experiences of the body and the histories of art to speak from a feminist perspective of the body’s passionate exploration of the world. This photographic print is from a series of paintings that uses photographs from another period to convey the ways women’s lives were experienced by them and by the photographer. She has exhibited throughout Aotearoa/New Zealand. A residency in Leipzig gave her direct access to baroque and contemporary Eastern European art; this work draws on Eastern European approaches to the use of photography by painters.
