Joan Taylor’s etching Morepork shows a ruru feeding its chicks, a moth in its mouth. Joan Taylor exhibited throughout Aotearoa, teaching in Auckland, and her work is held at the New Zealand Academy of the Arts in Wellington and at Hocken Collections Tue Uare Taoka o Hakena, Otepoti/Dunedin. This delicate etching is from the 1970s but the language of the bird’s representation does not date.
